The Nuts and Bolts of Painting

In the beginning of a painting, I'm never sure what I'm doing.
There is something that starts but it's not verbal.

I start with lines and ideas and then shapes and colors.  These two have been in the works for awhile.  I'm still not sure where they are going.
A month or so ago I thought my direction was to be more cityscapes but somehow it didn't happen.   I don't know what that's about.
